So Christmas rushed passed and you suddenly remembered that you had forgotten to purchase your National Lottery ticket for the draw on 27th December 2009, you rush to the newsagents to be told the National Lottery machines are not working?
Hang on, something wrong there, how can the National Lottery machines not be working, oh well it’s almost time for the draw let’s not dwell on it, so you rush home, create an account and attempt to buy your tickets online.
That’s not working either? How can this be?
Sounds like a silly dream doesn’t it? Well it wasn’t, it was a reality for players trying to purchase National Lottery tickets for the draw held on 27th December 2009 when a lottery glitch meant that the purchasing of national Lottery tickets was impossible across the UK for most of the day, this in turn forced people to try and purchase online creating unprecedented traffic for the National Lottery website meaning that too crashed under the weight of the demand of players trying frantically to purchase tickets.
There were lots of disappointed Lotto players throughout the day as lottery terminals never recovered for many people to purchase tickets and the event was fairly unprecedented in the history of the lottery. The winner too was affected with the lottery glitch knocking approximately £800,000 off the National Lottery jackpot.
